I don’t know about you, but it drives me crazy when part way through the holiday your bag turns into a messy pile of possessions; it’s impossible to find your phone charger, your moisturizer has started to leak everywhere and you can no longer tell what’s clean or dirty.
Below are some of the best travel packing tools that we use to organise our possessions for a stress-free, mess-free holiday.
Packing Cubes are THE Best Travel Packing Tools
In my opinion the invention of packing cubes should be right up there with the wheel, fire and sliced bread. Packing cubes are THE best travel packing tools on the market as they keep all your possessions in neat little packages and you avoid getting a jumbled mess at the bottom of the bag.
Packing cubes come in a range of different sizes from larger cubes for keeping shirts neatly folded to smaller ones for socks and underwear.
We own several different brands of packing cubes but my preference is the Eagle Creek brand. They are slightly more expensive but are very durable and well designed. I love their compression cubes with the double zip system. One zip opens/closes the cube and the other zip wraps the entire way around the cube to compress the contents and halve the thickness of the cube. The Eagle Creek Compression Cubes are perfect for when you have limited space.
I have highlighted a few of my favourite Eagle Creek Packing Cubes below.
Cable Bag
Keeping track of all your cables and electronics paraphernalia can be an absolute nightmare. We find that having a dedicated cable bag helps to keep the mess to a minimum.
A few things to think about when buying a cable bag:
- avoid a pouch style of bag where everything is stored in the one section, you’ll just end up with a jumbled mess of cables
- aim to have different sections for different types/sizes of gadgets
- aim to have either individual sleeves or straps where all your cables can be stored neatly and separately
We use the Skooba brand but there are several other alternatives available. Our bag has several sections for larger gadgets and a series of elastic straps to slip your neatly rolled up cables under. You may be wondering why its important to have all your cables neatly lined up. It means you have easy access to them and you can see at a glance what is missing. That way, you’ll never leave your phone charger in your hotel room ever again.
I have listed a few suggestions for you below.
Travel Toiletry Bag
Just like having all your cables organised it is also important to have all your toiletries organised. Once again my preferred product is Eagle Creek as I find them very well made and with a well thought out design.
A few things to think about when buying a toiletry bag for traveling:
- avoid a pouch style of bag where everything is stored in the one section
- aim to have different sections for different types of products i.e. hair products in one section, face products in another section
- look for a bag that can be hung off a hook or doorknob in case there is limited shelf space
Packaway Travel Bag
We purchased a packaway travel bag at a Kathmandu sale one day and have found it to be really useful when away on holidays.
The bag comes folded up neatly in a little pouch and takes up hardly any space in your luggage. It can be pulled out any time you need a spare travel bag and folds away neatly in its pouch when you are finished using it. We find it useful for throwing a few things in to go on a day trip, as somewhere to put souvenirs or even as a spare bag to put your dirty washing in.
As mentioned, we use the Kathmandu brand but there are several other options available, I have listed a few below.
